Still Here

Hello, and welcome to the calculator review, hosted on calaquin.com (except not right now).

I apologize for the lack of content over the past few weeks, and I apologize for next week too, because there likely won't be much content then either. I'm on my winter break from school so this has been a time for me to relax and be as lazy as possible.

Despite the lack of content, I have been working on some material for upcoming reviews. I'm excited about it and can't wait to show everyone. It's not quite ready, but it will be soon.

Next week I'll be going to a gaming convention, so it's not likely that I'll have much to share until the second week of January.

The three reviews a week schedule will resume some time next month. Until then, I hope everyone's okay with sporadic updates for this content that I pay for you to enjoy.

Also, calaquin.com is currently not working. I'm trying to fix this.

Update: No longer posting every week day

Hello! Due to things going on in my life, I am reducing the number of calculator reviews I put out every week. Starting 19 November, I will be posting reviews on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This will help take reduce the pressure of getting a video and a written review made every day, so maybe quality will increase too?

In addition (haha) to calculator reviews, I have also been working on creating content about other vintage technologies. Several of these videos have already been recorded, but they require some editing work to become presentable. I'm very excited about it, and I think people will enjoy it as well.

I still fully intend to produce quality calculator content that will continue until I run out of calculators to review.

Something Different: My Calculator Work Station

I've been busy with a lot of calculator work. Some of these devices are absolutely amazing, but require a bit of work before they're ready for review. This is where I do all of my work, including the reviews themselves.

The desk was given to me by my mother when I moved into my apartment, but I have modified it to my liking. I covered the old, nasty wooden top with floor tiles for a sturdy yet replaceable work surface. You can sort of see it, but there's a keyboard drawer I installed that I found at a thrift store. It holds my controller keyboard and some other miscellaneous items.

The dual monitor setup is great for multitasking, and I 3D printed a mount for a USB 3.0 hub that allows me to control all of my devices. Originally, the PC was on top of the desk, but I moved it under and attached some wheels so I could keep it out of the way but bring it out for cleaning or any other work that needs to be done.

The drawers and cabinets are full of tools, hardware, cloths, and other assorted things I need to do cleanup and repairs. My most frequently used items are in the small plastic drawers on top of the desk. All of this is constantly rearranged as I find myself having different needs for different projects.

You can see my microphone boom, and that's also where I attach the camera when I do my reviews. It's not ideal, but it works and keeps everything out of the way but accessible. The desk lamp is there to provide additional lighting for pictures and videos, or if I'm doing a repair or cleanup late at night.

Not pictured are other tools I frequently use such as a soldering iron, rotary tool, and a few other cleaning supplies.

I love my work station because I've put a lot of work into making it fit all of my needs. It's great for making a mess and being able to easily clean it all up afterward. It's usually much messier than this, but I cleaned it up and organized stuff for the picture.

I was hoping the wires and cables beneath the desk wouldn't show, but yes I realize they look awful.
